Saskatchewan invited 535 immigration candidates
A new draw organized by Saskatchewan on 24 September invited 535 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residency.
The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) sent invitations to candidates in demand categories in express entry and occupations.
SINP has invited demand candidates in 2,740 businesses so far this year. Combined with 2,245 candidates invited to apply for provincial nomination through the Saskatchewan Express Admissions sub-category, the number of invitations issued in 2020 is now just under 5,000.
To be selected, candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with SINP.
SINP uses an EOI system to invite immigration candidates that have the potential to flourish in the Prairie Province to apply for provincial nomination for permanent residency.
Interested candidates must create an EOI profile and demonstrate their ability to settle in life in Saskatchewan by listing their work experience, education, language ability, age and connections in the province.
SINP uses these five factors to assess candidates and assigns them a score out of 100 on the International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid.
The highest scoring candidates are then issued an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residency in Canada.
The minimum score required in the September 24 draw was 82 for both sub-categories.
No job offer is required to receive an invitation from Saskatchewan. However, candidates were required to have at least one year’s work experience in a qualified skilled occupation related to their field of study.
Invited candidates in both categories also had academic credential assessments, which show how foreign degrees, diplomas, and certificates are compared to Canadian credentials.
Express entry sub-category
In the latest invitation round, Saskatchewan issued 455 invitations to candidates holding profiles in the Federal Express Entry pool.
The Federal Express Entry System manages Canada’s pool of candidates for three main economic-class immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
If candidates in the Federal Express Entry pool had also filled an EOI for Saskatchewan and had scored 68 on the SINP’s points assessment grid, they could have been invited to the latest draw.
Express Entry candidates who receive provincial nominations from the Saskatchewan province and receive 600 additional points toward their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The award effectively guarantees that they will be invited to apply for permanent residency at the subsequent Federal Express entry draw, as most invite rounds invite candidates with a score of 400. The latest Express Entry draw has candidates scoring at least 472 marks.
The same goes for any of Canada’s provincial nominee programs aligned with Express Entry.
