The new list is yet to be released but will be good news for high achieving education graduates such as PhD, Masters, Honours and other higher degree graduate students in WA as this opens an additional pathway to skilled migration, currently reserved for medical-related professions (which are not to be affected) on the Western Australia Skilled Migration Occupation List (WASMOL).

Regional WA only

Candidates nominating for occupations that are designated ‘Regional Western Australia only’ in the General or Graduate stream must provide evidence of a job offer/contract of employment in a location defined by the Commonwealth as Category 3 – Regional Centres and Other Regional Areas (not Perth and Mandurah). These include the following areas by postcodes: 6041 to 6044, 6084, 6207, 6213, 6215 to 6537, and 6560 to 6770.

The occupations identified on the occupation lists do not relate to any specific job vacancies, nor represent any guarantee of a job, but rather identify occupations that are considered a priority for the State. It is recommended that you research employment opportunities in Western Australia (in your occupation) before making the decision to migrate. State nomination applicants will have to compete with all potential employees in the Western Australian labour market to secure any available or advertised position.

For occupations which require licensing or registration before being permitted to work in Western Australia, a positive skills assessment and State nomination do not guarantee you will meet the licensing or registration requirements of the relevant licensing or registration authority. Those considering applying for Western Australian nomination are advised to check with the appropriate licensing or registration authority to verify their suitability for licensing or registration.

The Commonwealth Government determines the Regional Occupation List (ROL) which specifies those occupations that are only eligible for regional areas. In the table above, occupations listed as only available for the 491 are included on the ROL, with the Commonwealth Government precluding them from the 190 visa.
