IRCC has conducted the 11th Express Entry Draw of 2023.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a total of 3,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates across program draws. Candidates need a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 483.
All program draws consider candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
The draw took place on 12 April in which 3,500 candidates received invitations to apply (ITAs) in an all-program draw. Those candidates were required to have a minimum CRS score of at least 486.
The draw of 12 April invited only half the number of candidates invited to the draws of 15 March, 23 March and 29 March, all of which invited 7,000 candidates every two weeks instead of the typical bi-weekly draw Was. It also increased the minimum CRS score from 481 to 486. The draw size and high CRS scores are in line with previous draws seen in 2022 and early 2023.
March Milestones in Express Entry
In March this year, more than 21,000 ITAs were issued in a single month. This was the second highest number of ITAs issued in the history of Express Entry.
The highest number of ITAs were issued in a month in February 2021 when 27,332 CEC candidates were invited in a single draw.
That said, the first draw in March for 7,000 candidates was the largest program draw ever. The following two draws repeated this number for a total of 21,000 candidates invited in two weeks and a monthly total of 21,667 ITAs issued. The remaining 667 ITAs were issued in the March 1 draw targeting only Provincial Nominated Program (PNP) candidates.
In total, there were four Express Entry draws in March, one each week. This is unusual as the draw usually takes place every two weeks on a Wednesday.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is an application management system established in 2015 to assess and rank candidates for Canada’s three economic class immigration programs: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
Candidates in these programs are considered highly skilled and likely to be economically established in Canada. Express Entry uses a comprehensive ranking system to evaluate candidates based on human capital factors such as work experience, occupation, language ability and education. Those who obtain higher scores are most likely to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to the upcoming Express Entry draw.
If a candidate receives an ITA, they have 60 days to submit their final application for permanent residence to the IRCC. An immigration officer then reviews the application and decides whether the candidate is approved for permanent resident status.
