The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) for law enforcement professionals will begin accepting applications at an undetermined date this year.
The AAIP, one of 11 Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) across Canada, is launching a new Permanent Residence (PR) pathway focused on “adding needed support to Alberta’s police services” to meet two defined goals: meeting recruitment objectives for public safety and “addressing crime” across the province.
The province said there has been a significant decline in the number of Albertans choosing a career in policing, and this new PNP stream will help support Alberta police services.

In 2024, the AAIP Law Enforcement route will allocate 50 nominations for PNP candidates. This is also an Express Entry aligned stream, which means interested candidates must meet all the required Express Entry criteria to be eligible for PR.
The Alberta government launched the route on June 25 and provided some details.
Who is eligible for AAIP’s new law enforcement pathway?
As a candidate, the AAIP clarifies that candidates must have a current job offer from an employer with membership in the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP). They must also meet “all other Express Entry criteria” to be eligible for this new route.
Eligible businesses include:
- Commissioned and non-commissioned police officers
- Related Occupations in Public Safety Services
- Police investigators and other investigative occupations
- Specialized law enforcement occupations
About AAIP
AAIP is an economic immigration program that allows the Alberta government to nominate immigration candidates for permanent residence if they believe the candidate is suitable to help meet the province’s labour market gaps and demographic needs.
The program consists of several streams, open to candidates who can meet these requirements, including:
Comment: Each stream of AAIP has set eligibility criteria, while some also require an existing connection to the province such as a job offer, family ties, or educational history in Alberta.
The AAIP is in high demand among newcomers to Canada, so much so that the province recently released new application guidelines to ensure the province can process all applications in a timely manner.
These guidelines affect the Alberta Opportunity Stream, the Rural Renewal Stream, and the Accelerated Technology Pathway.
The province will accept a certain number of applications into the pool each month. Those who are unable to apply in a month because the limit has been reached can try again the following month.
