Alberta issued new PNP draw with minimum CRS cutoff 300
Alberta held a new drawing on June 5, inviting 191 Express Entry candidates to apply for provincial nominations.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominees Program (AINP) released the details of its latest drawing on June 8. Invited candidates may be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry Stream.
To be invited, candidates must have a profile in the Express Entry system with a score of at least 300. The previous drawing, held on May 18, required a slightly higher score of 301.
Alberta has now invited 2,100 Express Entry candidates to run for provincial nominations, as it resumed invitation rounds in January 2021 after a temporary COVID-related hiatus.
Alberta is allowed to issue 6,250 enrollment certificates in 2021. Not everyone who is invited to apply will receive a nomination, and not everyone who is nominated will receive permanent residency.
In theory, the government would reach that goal if Alberta issues about 692 enrollments per month for the rest of the year. The province is not obliged to release its share of the nomination. During the pandemic, the province stopped holding draws for the months after 2020. Also, unlike before, it is only inviting those candidates to apply who are already in the province.
How Alberta Express Entry Stream works
The Advanced Nominee Program (PNP) allows the provincial government to search the federal government Express Entry pool for profiles of individuals who may be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry stream.
The first step is to create a profile in the Express Entry system.
Express Entry is the application management system for three highly skilled federal programs:
If you are eligible for Express Entry, you will earn a score based on the Comprehensive Classification System (CRS). You get points based on your age, education, work experience, English or French language ability, and other factors.
Canada’s Department of Immigration, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regularly conducts express entry sweepstakes, inviting the highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence.
It is possible to immigrate through the Express Entry system without a provincial registration, however those with low CRS scores can opt for a PNP. Provincial nominees automatically earn 600 points added to their overall score. If the lowest-scoring candidate in the new Alberta drawing receives a nomination, her new CRS score will be 900, more than enough to be invited to subsequent Express Entry drawings.
