IELTS Test System
If your first language/preference is English, then you will most likely apply to the Canada Express Entry program through the International English Language Testing System or IELTS as it is popularly called. The IELTS is popular among countless number of companies and government institutions. It is considered a premier testing system and employs international standards of English to its examinations. Examines are tested across 4 key areas of language, namely:
- Listening: This segment contains 40 questions with the allotted time of 30 minutes and an added extra 10 minutes for transference.
- Reading: his segment also contains 40 questions and examines are given 60 minutes for completing it.
- Writing: This segment comprises of 2 tasks and examines are given 60 minutes for completing it.

Express Entry Processing Time
The average time taken to process an application by the IRCC is 6 months. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind here that IELTS scores must remain valid for the entirety of the immigration process which includes application, selection and PR status application. So, if your scores are about to expire while the immigration application process is still underway, then it would be wise to retake the test and submit the updated scores to the relevant Canadian authorities.
What should be the IELTS score for a Canada PR visa in 2018?
IELTS is a very important factor when calculating your CRS score for a Canada Permanent Resident visa. Ideally you should score a CLB 10 or higher in order to get the maximum points and reach up to 458 CRS points of out the maximum of 500 CRS points. However, if your other factor considerations like age, educational qualification, work experience and adaptability score well, then you can also qualify for immigration with a CLB 7 score in your first language.
